Top 7 Intriguing Benefits of Gratitude You Didn’t Know About

Many influential people popularize the benefits of gratitude.

For instance, Oprah Winfrey advises us to always write down five things we are thankful for before we sleep, claiming that gratitude creates more goodness in one’s life. For as she said, ‘The more thankful I became, the more my bounty increased. That’s because – for sure – what you focus on expands. When you focus on the goodness in life, you create more of it.’

I had to study gratitude and look for the things to be thankful for because I wanted to experience the benefits of gratitude. I then found that gratitude is important because of the following reasons.

Gratitude:

1.Increases Hope

Since gratitude makes you focus on the wonderful things life has given you, it gives you hope by making you realize that life always ensures that you have amazing things to be thankful for. In other words, gratitude gives you hope by showing you how the universe/life/God provides and cares for you.

2.Improves Your Health

Gratitude is good for your health since it boosts heart health and makes you sleep better. Like most positive emotions, gratitude improves your health by boosting your immune system.

The impact of gratitude on health is among the most studied benefits of gratitude. Many researchers have found that employees who embrace gratitude have good mental health.

3.Fosters Empathy and Compassion

Thankfulness reminds you that you are more blessed than billions of people across the world. It reminds you that you have more to be thankful for than orphans, beggars, the ill, and so on. For this reason, it makes you aware of other people’s problems and forces you to help them.

4.Gratitude Raises Your Vibrational Frequency

You are a vibrational being emitting a particular frequency. This frequency determines what you’ll attract into your life. Gratitude raises this frequency, enabling you to attract good things easily. For as for Rhonda Byrne, the television writer and producer, pointed it out, ‘Gratitude will shift you to a higher frequency, and you’ll attract much better things.’

Besides Rhonda, Joe Vitale, a renowned author, also noticed that ‘when you move into an active state of sincere gratitude, your whole being lights up and your energy quickens, and this high vibration acts like a magnet to bring your good to you.’

5.Makes You Focus on the Present Moment

Since gratitude makes you focus on what you have right now, it makes you more present.

Among all the benefits of gratitude, this is the benefit that I experienced first-hand. After embracing gratitude for a while, I noticed that I cared less about the past and the future as I focused on the blessings of the present moment.

6.Shifts Your Focus from Your Problems

Gratitude shifts your focus from your problems to your blessings, preventing you from contracting mental conditions – such as depression and chronic anxiety– which arise when you focus on your problems.

7.Eliminates Envy

Gratitude eliminates envy because it shows you that, just like the people you are envious of, you are also blessed with wonderful things.

Conclusion

You must make thankfulness a habit if you want to experience the above and many more benefits of gratitude.

Every day, identify three to ten things you are grateful for and reflect on how millions of people across the world don’t have them even though they want them.
